“Failure can be an important part of writing development.” by Collin Brooke and Allison Carr explained how writing is not something that comes naturally or easily to people. It only happens when we try and give our best to learn and understand how it works. This means that we can achieve success only by crossing failures. According to Anne Lamott “, Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts. You need to learn to start somewhere” (Lamott 1995, p.303). His point of saying this sentence is to remind us that we should not lose patience, we should keep trying with failure even if we cannot succeed in doing any work, we should keep our heart strong and keep trying until we get to the point.
In the article, the writer has mentioned that “successful writers aren’t those who are simply able to write brilliant first drafts.” (Brooke, Carr, p.62) This means everyone has that experience of failure before they become successful. I feel like starting with the first shitty draft would be very helpful to deal with failure. The first shitty draft is also known as a key to understanding and improving your writing, which helps us to improve our writing by finding our own mistakes. After reading this article, I got to know the importance of the first shitty draft.
I personally think that failure plays an important role in writing. Taking examples of my own experiences, I have failed so many times while trying to learn new things before, especially on essays. I know how it feels when things don’t happen as we expected. I have felt it several times. Now I learned a lesson from it, which is that we should find out the cause of our failure and remove them so there will be no repetition of those mistakes in the future. There is no doubt that failure always hurts. But there is hardly anyone in this world who has not faced defeat. When I see some examples of successful people in the world who inspired me to not give up on trying new things. Because I have seen their accomplishments. That is why there is a saying called “Hard work pays off.” exists. A person may lose the game by failure, but the same person learns how to deal with it from that experience. Failure always teaches us a good lesson. That’s why we should not stop trying until we succeed.
