Writing In Different Settings

In “All Writers Have More to Learn”, by Rose, Shirley speaks about the continuous struggle all good writers uphold. Good writing is not learned once, it’s a process, even when it’s perfected. One of the first lessons learned “They Will Never Have Learned All That Can Be Known About Writing and Will Never Be Able To Demonstrate All They Do Know About Writing.” They may perfect a writing strategy in one way and struggle in a different way. In “Learning To Write Effectively Requires Different Kinds of Practice, Time and Effort”, by Yancey, Kathleen emphasizes on the beginning stages of writing and how it trains our abilities as writers. For example, when we learn how to crawl as babies, it’s perfected and it naturally comes to us, in the same way, when we research, revise and edit our writing, it becomes a part of us. We then know how to demonstrate the tools to become effective writers. In “All Writers Have More To Learn” speaks on writing as a life lesson and not a perfection on the first try, although it is perfected on a first essay or rough draft, because it’s a” shitty rough draft.” When writing a “shitty rough draft”, by Lamott Anne we write freely and revise the essay for  the final. “Learning to write effectively” is learned and perfected through the process we go through , however “All Writers Have To Learn” is not perfected once, because great writing skills don’t happen overnight, it’s learned overtime and never stops.

Lamott, Anne states, “You need to put yourself at their center, you and what you believe to be true or right. The core, ethical concepts in which you most passionately believe are the language in which you are writing.

Both readings are important for writing classes, because it teaches them the importance of revising and researching. It won’t discourage them as writers, because they will learn that good writing is not done overnight. Writing well is a process , and it will be a hiccup throughout their career. I think teachers need to continue to speak on the importance of researching and revising. I think the colleges should have a class that teaches students how to research, revise, edit, paraphrase and to do work cited only. There is always a better way for k-12 education to better our students for the future, by having more writing classes, or teaching more on the importance of it, and the steps it requires to become successful later in life. Writers need to continue to strive and do their best and not  get discouraged when challenges come.

When writing it’s important to switch your environment for different techniques. Doing so, you are able to have a better overall look at situations. When we write, we express ourselves through thought , when we look at other resources we enhance our thinking and become a more effective writer.”Affordances are determined by both the environment and the animal(or, more specifically, action capabilities of the animal).” However, in writing what we know, we get familiar with practice, then it’s installed in us. Both readings are required steps we take. When we learn to write the first step is to pick up the pen and we learn through practice, on the other hand when getting out of our comfort zone we approach a better vision.
