Every Writer Must Start Somewhere: This Leads to Success

Good writing comes from failure. As talked about “Failure Can be an Important part of Writing Development”, Collin Brooke and Allison Carr, Failing is the first part of succeeding. The first step of writing is writing a first draft. First drafts are when the writer’s first piece of writing, these usually need to be revised. First drafts usually turn out to be written pretty poorly, this is the reason for revising. Revision is when a writer edits their paper to making it best as possible. This shows how failing is the way to success. Everyone needs to start somewhere. In most scenarios failure must come before success, for example riding a bike. As a kid learning to ride a bike was difficult, most began by falling multiple times. Eventually you start to get the rhythm of it, this leads to success. This is related to writing because starting is always the hardest part. Looking at the picture above the writer relates because they are learning from their first draft. Soon enough the writer will find their rhythm, fix their mistakes which leads them on their way to success.

“Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts. You need to start somewhere” (Lamott 1995, 303).  This is a quote that Collin Brooke and Allison Carr both used in their article. The meaning of this quote refers to first drafts, every writing could use some work.

One of the biggest mistakes that students make when writing is following requirements their teachers make for them. Students care more about their grades than how well their paper is written. This is why teachers may feel their students aren’t putting their best foot forward. Students worrying about grades has an impact on their actual writing skills. Writing is very important when it comes to the real world. Although, when in school students tend to focus more on their grades, whats being taught still is helpful. School is where it begins. Students learning the basics is the start to succeeding along the way. All writers need to start somewhere.
